Don't call your mother, 'cause now we're partners in crime...

Being a foreigner, going off to college meant leaving the safe haven of home and living on my own in a strange country. Since I came here alone, I knew no one and I'll willingly admit; it was scary as hell! When deciding where to live I had several options. I could rent an apartment on my own, I could choose to live on campus on my own or (here comes the best alternative): share an apartment on campus. It sounds lovely doesn't it? An apartment with four girls, going to college, partying whenever given the opportunity, chit chatting 24/7....

So I figured, let's just do it! Let's live with three complete strangers for a year. Turned out, they didn't stay strangers for long. It was like being thrown into a new family, consisting of four young women. I'm not saying it wasn't weird at first, but as soon as you start making fun of each other, arguing over whose turn it is to clean up or get rid of the mountain of rubbish, you start feeling like a family. In our case; four sisters.
Mimi, Trish, Jay and a tiny bit of me
Jay is my roomie, we get along surprisingly well ;) Before I moved here my mum used to say that no one could ever stand living with me, since I have a tendency to cover the floor with clothes, leave piles of books everywhere, forget empty waterglasses on every flat surface..... But a few weeks after moving in with Jay I realised, she's just like me!

We both embrace the chaos. Isn't it lovely? Sure, we clean up a few times a week, but somehow the room always goes back to looking like this after a few hours. Jay and myself don't really mind, messy is the way to live!

Of course it's not always awesome living with a bunch of people. It's never quiet, the kitchen area is usually disastrous, the bathroom is always occupied and there never seems to be enough mirrors... but on the other hand you learn how to deal with all of that, and may I say, we have the BEST girlie nights ever! We watch stupid tv-shows, eat junkfood and laugh alot.

You get friends for life, it is kind of impossible to not like each other when you learn so much about the others, get to know who they really are. And the memories are irreplaceble, one of my favourites so far is when all of us sat down in the kitchen at 4 in the morning after a night out, eating everything edible available in the kitchen. We basically ate, talked and laughed for hours. The kitchen looked like a bomb had detonated in there when we woke up the next morning, and we all needed to go shopping for more food.

You never get to be alone, you never need to be alone. It's the best and sometimes the worst part of it. Personally, I enjoy every moment of living with strangers (that aren't strangers anymore).

So if you get the chance to live with a bunch of weirdos, don't hesitate! It's a DO!
